Here is a new quilt that I sent off to my Grandma in Florida. I won the floral fabric in a giveaway from Gina from Ginabean handmade! Thanks Gina they look perfect!!! Like my daughter says, "Very Florida!!"

I went back to work and my daughter started school. Exciting, but all new to me. Change can be fun and scary too. I am doing private duty home care for an elderly lady.

But on the crafty side....!!!! I am quilting for Christmas!

I have finished 8 and didn't get a picture of a yellow and green one. I gave it away before getting a picture. I have two quilts waiting too put together and one ready to pin. Crazy but fun!!

This is the "Love that Remains" quilt I just finished for my brother and his wife.

These are mostly vintage fabrics from my Father in Law!

9 patch with a grid quilting pattern. I used my walking foot for the first time!

The pieced back with a single heart in the middle.

I am hooked on this binding tutorial and have tried and loved it twice here at The Somtimes Crafter.

I appliqued lace hearts and left the edges to fray. Reminds me of hearts that have been through stuff yet remain.

This is a generous Lap sized quilt, it just needs a label!

I made this tied tutu last night for a late Birthday present.

Then this is made with some scrapbook paper that I got from a giveaway.

I spray painted an old plaque and glued the paper on and brushed the glue over the top to seal it. Kinda my version of MODGE PODGE.

I painted this old shelf and a plaque and made this set up.

We took our house off the market and wanted to just live here for now and hang up some pictures, here is another scrapbook project.

Silverware that I got FREE. It is Fiesta and I found it on clearance in Macy's and had a promo free gift card!

I am going to accent dining room and kitchen in red white and black.

I found these coffee pot salt and pepper shakers at the antique store. They had an ugly vintage Myrtle Beach sticker, I washed them up and LOVE

the new look!

Made tie backs out of red and whit scraps.

My new quilted kitchen rug!

Some fabric hoops.

I am using the middle fabric to make a table runner it is a linen and I am going to free motion quilt it to get more practice.

I painted this red from a gold.

And hung it.

Here is my daughters new $8 desk. After trading in some outgrown furniture I paid $8 for this solid wood desk for my BIG girl!

It will be perfect for homescool and has lots of DRAWERS!

This is the pink color Genesis chose to paint her desk. Then the books and papers will be neat and organized!

Here is my lovely free motion meandering. It got better as I went along and look like stippling in some parts!

SOme pukering in the backing and some (not much) thread mess too. I didn't pick it out and start all over, this is it. I will do MUCH better next time

I think it turned out good for my first REAL quilt.

I am taking a class on Free Motion in a few weeks.

My first quilt

Here is a picture of my first quilt.

It was fairly easy to make this rag quilt.

I didn't use a cotton thread and it did not hold up really good.

Also I didn't use a big enough table to sew it together and got a lot of pulling from the weight of the quilt.

Flannel is nice, but I didn't use quilter's flannel. I think it would be better.

Here is a more recent baby doll quilt:

I loved the Minky back on this!!

Lots of meandering (stitches that cross) and trying to get a good stipple (stitches no clser than 1/4 inch and that do not cross) going here...

But hey, this is my first attempt...

And this thing is huge.

My little beginner sewing machine is doing pretty good in my opinion.

This is my binding cut. I may work on it at my quilting guild meeting tonight.

Also, I dyed my sheets and bed ruffle to match my quilt better, when it is finished. Dusty rose. That is my old quilt, it is store bought.

Wow we have been to 3 Vacation Bible School's so far and three more next week.

It rained as soon as we set up our tent, and all night and the next day we had a break with just enough time to eat breakfast, then it started raining.

They had a cool petting zoo, and plyground and pool.

VERY muddy, but we were together!

What a perfect day!

We went to the stables and for $35 for 1 hour...

5 girls got to ride Frank.

Then cupcakes and gifts at the park right there,

we got this chocolate muffin recipe from the Holly Hobbie website here. So yummy!

And then played at the park

Um yeah a bit too much spinning on the tire swing one got sick and another almost did.

I made 5 of these from here. And stuffed them with goodies!

Little Girl is growing up

The pre celebration started at home last night and will continue on Sat. at the stables!
We did go to Toys R Us and got Barbie Cooking show. She also got Barbie Glimmer Horse and Island Princess DVD dance along, a flashlight and A new Princess dressup dress.

Then the UPS truck came with some more goodies from Gigi...

Our church had a picnic on Easter and we didn't want to go...

We took a close by family trip!

The best part of the day, there was a 9 year old boy who showed up at our table. He looked like he was blind in one eye. He had lunch at our table then they held the raffle. There was a brand new bike up for the raffle and he won! He didn't even have a bike. It was just his size, it was like it was made for him. God knows our desires and cares enough to let us know that.

Anyways, I just wanted to show of my number 3 quilt.
This is my favorite quiltso far, because I made it with fabrics from my daughters old clothing. It is uneven and a bit wonky. I am kinda teaching myself here.
I am ready to try again.

Birthday gift for my Mom

When I went home to my Mom's in Feb. she picked out this Lakehouse fabric to go with the embroidery that I had made her. Here it is finished!

I had enough leftover and decided to make a partner pillow. I did a quilted top to this pillow. That took me what seemed like forever to stich each of those squares.

The back has the super softest minkee.

I did hand embroider the sailboat! I think I got the patter from hoop love on flicker.

My ginham 'flags' didn't quite end up matching correctly. I am a work in progress here.

This is a baby gift for a friend, hope she likes it.

Delicious Whole Wheat Pancakes

2/3 C. whole wheat flour

1 1/2 t. baking powder

4 t. sugar

1/4 t. salt

1 egg, well beaten

2/3 C. milk

4 t. oil

Mix the dry ing. set aside.

Combine egg milk and oil in bowl.

Add flour mixture.

Pour onto hot griddle.

Flip when brown.

Enjoy.

Healthy and filling!

We took a field trip a few weeks ago to the Mrs. Hanes Cookie Factory.

They hand roll, cut, and pack the cookies.

Here a woman is hand packing the bins of cookies, they are shipping all year around, but Christmas is their busiest season.

They have been around for generations.

Field Trip

We took a field trip to the local science museum.

EKE! Bad hair day...no really it is electricity!

We went on a trip up North to visit family.

We don't get much snow here in the south,

but this was beautiful!

I love how the snow stuck to the limbs of every tree and bush branches like this. This storm was at night and in the morning it was not so pretty.

We enjoyed the beauty and a little night walk around the neighborhood for a bit before bedtime.

Take a piece of construction paper and fold in half and cut out your hearts.

Make 2 sizes

Part 2:

Next you want to print and cut out your favorite 'Love' Bible verse.

We chose John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Glue it to the center of the hearts and sign the back!

Ad glue and sprinkle liberrally with glitter.

Ice experiment

Temperatures here in the South were really cold in the single digits a few mornings here recently.

We did a little experiment.

Here is the observation journal. We kept track of our observations every 40 minutes or so...We tracked 4 cups of water. 2 cups were placed in the sun and 2 in the shade.

1 of the 2 were filled and the other had just a small amout of water.

After 4 1/2, hours only the full cup in the sun was frozen. And the full cup in the shad was slushy.

By bed time most were frozen, but these two were only patially frozen.

They were only filled part of the way!

I just finished this insert for my Mom yesterday.

She lives in Ipswich, ma. and we are going for a visit in a few weeks.

She and I will go get some matching fabric to make a pillow.

I hope the colors go in the room she wants this in.

Are colors the most challenging whn you are making a gift for someone?

That and sizes for clothing are for me...

I think my photos look a little better in these...

This is supposed to be a chain stitch but not sure if I am doing it right. It is hard to teach yourself without someone looking over your shoulder to tell you if you are doing it right....

Last night I did the branch in chain stitch! I taught myself the new stitch, and the Birds are a periwinkle Blue done in stem stitch.

This was requested by a sweet boy who wants to be a preacher when he grows up. He admired the horse pillow I made Genesis and this is what I came up with.
My corners (the ones around the embroidering) are a bit frayed. I clipped them a bit. I should have looked up how to do this somewhere. I had no pattern. My husband was on the computer last night.

I did a soft denim backing.

I tried the chain stitch and failed to get it right. I know that these stitches aren't perfect, but I kept remining myself, no one will even know. How many projects could you ffinish if you would accept that fact?

After watching youtube videos for 45 min. we decided to use the tie the floss around the tooth method. after three attempts (the floss slip right off) I yanked it right out. She was more in shock than anything, but it really didn't hurt.

She Loves the barbie website and sings the Diamond Castle songs. She said her voice is pretty after losing her tooth on Sunday.

Yesterday we went ice skating! She did well I think. I didn't dare bring a camera, I thought with her needing me to hold her hand the whole time and a few falls...well it was FUN!

Here are a few updates from Christmas.

Christmas was quite, just the 3 of us and Kitty.

I made Genesis a pajama gown and she loves the Hippo Christmas song. I just happened to find this cute hippo fabric!

The spoils are as follows, Barbies and accessories, watch, doll case, clothes. American doll and outfits, Polly Pocket stuff, Journals, cookbook, videos, Blanket, Arts and craft sets...$$$
